Annual Exams

We advocate annual diagnostic and wellness checkups for your pet. These annual visits can help reassure you that your dog or cat is healthy, or can help us detect hidden diseases, or allow us to monitor chronic health conditions.

Dogs and cats age quicker than humans, so it is critical for our companion animals to receive regular exams. The risks of arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, endocrine disorders, liver and kidney problems, and cancer all increase with age.

During your pet's wellness exam we will perform a complete physical assessment, looking your pet over from nose to tail. We will update vaccines if necessary and discuss routine preventatives such as flea/tick and heartworm meds. If your pet is taking medications on a regular basis we will discuss them and how well they are working for your pet.

If necessary we will perform a diagnostic workup, which may include blood, fecal, and urine tests to check for parasites and underlying disease. When your pet approaches senior status we may recommend a more comprehensive workup to provide a baseline of what is normal for your pet, even if they are not sick. This will enable us to better evaluate any changes going forward.

Because you are your pet's daily companion, you are your pet's greatest healthcare advocate. We aim to be a part of your team! Please let us know if you've noticed any physical or behavioral changes in your pet: sleeping, eating, activity, interactions with you, even changes in urinating and defecating are all important to know about. Our dedicated staff of professionals here at Framingham Animal Hospital want to help ensure that your companion pet has many healthy years with you.
